I feel good, I feel great, I feel wonderful.
Welcome to my happy place. My alternate universe. A strange new world in which the Marlins keep winning ball games.
As with most dream worlds, we're assured it won't last (especially watching the boys kick it around like Rookies division Little Leaguers last night). And yet, we're 14 games into the 2008 season, and I can still happily write that the Marlins are leading the NL East. Sure, it's early, but I am still pleasantly surprised at the Marlins' strong start to 2008, especially given the issues with our starting rotation.
Not only are we winning ballgames, we're also beating pitchers like Tim Hudson. The Marlins had a team batting average of about .002 against Hud before last night, and I was prepared for a 90-minute snoozefest of a contest in which the Marlins would manage only one base-runner the entire nine innings. I was almost looking forward to lamenting our failures here on Hook, Line Drive & Sinker once the loss was officially recorded.
The Fish, however, had other plans. Plans like actually getting hits and scoring runs and beating the Braves for the second night in a row. In keeping with the upbeat attitude you've come to expect from me, though, let me just say: All good things must come to an end. Every rainbow has its cloud. No matter how good things are, be assured they will be crappy again shortly (or something like that).
We'll look forward to a reality check tonight against Smoltz. Or perhaps the insanity will continue. How's that for a game prediction?
And now for a little segment I like to call...
QUOTE OF THE WEEK.
"I don't think we're going to see the Bash Brothers as much. We're going to see a little more focus on the defense." - Fredi Gonzalez on the team's newfound pride in defense
I think somebody forget to send that memo to Jorge Cantu, who is the proud owner of five of the Marlins' 12 errors this season.

Try not to think of them as errors but rather "differently fielded".

OMG - no matter when I visit your blog, Kelly, I always laugh. Your fishes-in-the-glass picture was hilarious.
The Fish are on a roll. I never discounted the Marlins in any year - they always had the talent it is just able to prevail this year. I am rooting for them - I always love the underdog :)

Nice picture lol! It's like Al Davis said, just win baby. Errors and all, as long as the Fish have more runs than the other guys, I'm happy!!! I just joined a few weeks ago. If you're intrested, seach GoldGloveLuie on the blogs home page and check out my Marlins blog. Even if you don't I'll still read yours! It's always entertaining!

Hey Kelly,
Sorry it's been so long. I quit my blog after the Big Trade of 07. I not only lost the will to blog, but also the will to live. JK...kinda. But I am loving this start for the most part. I hope Chris Volstad is called up soon in place of one of the "Weak 3" in the rotation.
I'm not going to use my MLBlog anymore because as a recent college graduate, I should not be paying to write about baseball, rather I should be paid to write about baseball. But I can always count on you to represent the REAL fish fans. I came across a DREADFUL Bleacher Report article yesterday entitled "Why the Marlins won't stay in First place." It spewed out terrible misinformation of a lineup filled with rookies who were "unproven" hitters. I was fuming but refused to comment or read any other ignorant articles in the future.
You rock. BTW, I am super pissed there is NO TV tonight for Scott Olsen pitching against the Brewers. The ONE starter who has been fun to watch this year, and we're being deprived of his gas-throwing tonight. A shame.
